Let’s learn more about Eric’s background and see how he fits into his role here at Ocient.
Where are you based and how do you take advantage of our remote first policy?
I live in San Diego. The city is very car dependent so to be able to avoid being on the road during rush hour saves me so much time. Being remote also just simplifies things in life and makes it so much easier to do things like pop out of the house midday for a dentist appointment, run to the grocery store on my lunch break, or make sure someone’s home if we need to have a plumber come by.
How long have you been with Ocient?
It will be 3 years in April.
What are some things you like to do in your free time?
I try to stay pretty active. That includes taking outdoor fitness classes (year round with San Diego weather), hiking and running (after taking an extended break, I just signed up for the Balboa Park 8 Miler in August). I love to read and have been on a big Brandon Sanderson kick lately. I also love beer and food and have no shortage of great breweries and restaurants near me.
What’s the next place you’d like to check off your travel bucket list?
The first place that comes to mind is Japan. I’ve never been to Asia and I just keep hearing great things from people that have been. I’d also love to make it to Munich for Oktoberfest.
What’s your go-to comfort food?
Call me basic, but I love a good burger and fries.
Which Ocient core value do you resonate the most with in your daily working life?
Craft-Driven. Being a start-up means you need to get creative at times to get the job done and find solutions outside of the box.
What career advice would you give your younger self?
Don’t be afraid to take risks. The easy or safe option isn’t going to get you where you want to be.
Would you like to give an employee shoutout?
Tyler Albers, one of our Site Reliability Engineers, is just an absolute team player and a pleasure to work with. I continue to be impressed by his growth as he’s become an integral part of our team.
